Trakker Technologies congratulates Mandalay Media Arts on the Slingshot-supported PBS release of Sahara

March 20, 2000 (El Segundo, CA) --- Trakker Technologies would like to congratulate Barry Clarke on the release of the educational documentary Sahara. Clarke is the Executive Producer and Writer of Sahara, which will air on Wed., March 24, 2000 at 9:00pm EST. This epic documents the nature of the great desert, from the extreme weather patterns to the amazing diversity of its indigenous wildlife

Terry Clarke, with Reed Brown as assistant editor, edited Sahara, which was shot on super 35mm. The editing system used on this project was the Media 100 with the help of Slingshot to facilitate the negative cut. With 1,100 events the entire editing process took 18 months.

"I am delighted that our software has been used on this show," exclaims Barry Silver, President of Trakker Technologies. "I'm glad that we were able to make their editing process a little bit smoother."

Sahara was filmed entirely on location in the Sahara desert on the Algerian/Moroccan border and took almost four years from pre-production to post-production. During this time, the crewmembers spent 1 1/2 years in production and were subject to the intense heat produced in this region. There were 7 cinematographers on the shoot with a crew of 25 working at all times.

Mandalay's interest in this project stemmed from [Barry] Clarke's opinion that the Sahara desert has not been adequately covered in previous documentaries. Because of the extensive efforts put forth by Executive Producer [Barry] Clarke, Sahara was one of the most expensive and difficult projects he has worked on. It required the funds of 2 million dollars, of which Disney and PBS funded as equal partners.

"Many people are under the impression that the Sahara desert is merely a vast wasteland," explains [Barry] Clarke, "There is an entire ecosystem that people are not aware of."

Again, Trakker Technologies would like to extend their congratulations to [Barry] Clarke and everyone who participated in the making of Sahara. Trakker also thanks the editors, [Terry] Clarke and Reed Brown for their involvement of Slingshot in the editing process.

Trakker Technologies is committed to the advancement and improvement of the post-production industry and all who are involved. Their products and services are geared toward creating exceptional real-world solutions to real-world needs at a price that people can afford.
