Very Mean Men nabs coveted American Indie Editing Award at the 2000 Seattle International Film Festival.

May 22, 2000 (El Segundo, CA) --- Trakker Technologies and FAST Sales US extend their congratulations to Gregory Hobson, editor of Very Mean Men, winner of the American Indie Editing Award at this year's Seattle International Film Festival. The prize for this award is a complete film-editing suite consisting of FAST's Silver and Trakker Technologies' Slingshot. This is the first year this type of award has been sponsored and Hobson is the first recipient of this exceptional prize valued at approximately $30,000.

"We are very honored to help pioneer this award for SIFF," explains Robert Mathieu, representative for Trakker Technologies, "It is great to see that this festival is recognizing the hard work and talent that goes into all aspects of filmmaking."

The American Indie Editing Award is a subcategory of the New American Cinema Awards. The New American Cinema Awards spotlight exceptional films created under the pressure of tight budgets, minimal resources, and nearly impossible deadlines. Jurors for this competition were Emanuel Levy (Senior Film Critic, Variety), Rex Reed (critic, journalist, author, and lecturer), and Susan Glatzer (independent producer).

"We are please and excited about the powerful tools now available to the film industry from Fast Sales US," explains David Sarson of FAST Sales US, "We are proud to be involved with the Seattle International Film Festival and look forward to another great year of films. Congratulations to the winner of the American Indie Editing Award."

Very Mean Men, which won Hobson the grand award, is a gangster comedy about a bartender played by Matthew Modine and a drunken customer played by Martin Landau who never leaves a tip. Throughout the movie, the bartender is telling the drunken customer a story about two Mafia families who were at war because one family never left tips. Other actors included Scott Baio, Louise Fletcher, Burt Young and Ben Gazara.

"What's the word, overwhelmed?" ponders Greg Hobson, who was unable to attend the award ceremony, "I got a call from the director (Tony Vitali) saying he had great news. I had to wait hours to find out I had won. I am very excited, I think it's great to see the support for film editing."

Very Mean Men was dubbed in Variety Magazine as a "..Post-Tarentino spoof." The editing for this movie, according to Hobson, was very tricky. Since it was two stories in one, there were a lot of strategic edits that Hobson feels is what won him the prized award.
